Beach House Ankwanda Rebrands to Afiki: Elevating the customer experience and keeping our high level of customer service for which the Beach House was famous for.
The name the Beach House accurately described what we are – a house right on the beach in the village of Ankwanda, near Elmina. As our ambition to build an eco-friendly, relaxing and affordable beach hotel that makes a positive impact in our village grew, we made the decision to rebrand.
Afiki is derived from the Swahili word Rafiki. Rafiki means friend. Rafiki embodies the Afiki way. The Afiki way is to provide a tranquil setting in which our staff, our environment and our village thrives and our guests feel at home.
At Afiki, we are intentional about sustainability as we seek to create an eco friendly beach hotel with African charm. In renovating the Beach House to create Afiki:
our swimming pool, designed by our friends at Terra Garden Design, was constructed using local materials from our village and its surrounds. Our natural stone pool floor was sourced from nearby Cape Coast, our sand came from our land, from the hole in which we dug the pool, and local workers made it all come to life.
our pool deck tiles are made from the natural red clay that Africa is so famous for and was manufactured by a local producer 5 miles from Afiki.
we use local wood, such as raffia palm, which grows wild in our region. Raffia palm is fast growing and does not contribute to deforestation.
we pride ourselves in working with local crafts people who use local materials to create beautiful traditional furniture which provides our guests with an authentic African experience
we are phasing out single use plastics. We have started by switching from plastic garbage bags in all our rooms to sustainable washable cloths.
we are upcycling where we can! Our outdoor bins use recycled car tires.
In becoming Afiki, a new garden restaurant which opens in 2025 is being added to our beach house giving guests a relaxing alfresco dining experience.
At Afiki Garden Restaurant, guests can look forward to enjoying the cool sea breeze whilst sampling:
Afiki Grown Catfish: A local favorite fresh water fish, prepared as you like.
Possibly the widest variety of vegan dishes in the Elmina/Cape Coast area crafted with creativity and care.
Fresh Seafood. Locally sourced from fishermen in our village and Elmina barbecued, steamed or fried to perfection (as you wish) and bursting with naturally seasoned flavor.
Locally sourced fruits which we use to make delicious fresh juices and smoothies popping with natural goodness.
In addition to our pool and garden restaurant, the Afiki bedrooms are undergoing renovations introducing locally crafted furniture and African inspired bathrooms, designed to provide a sensory and culturally immersive experience.
